April was a good month… I joined a host of fellow Wedding Suppliers at the awards dinner for the Hampshire Bridal Magazine’s 2019 Awards. Those of you who know me, will realise that I’m normally quite concerned about how much to layer up underneath my favourite jumper when I go to work. So it was a lovely change to dust off some sparkly shoes and join my fellow nominees to find out the results.
To be in the running for this award at all ignited a bit of a competitive streak! I have faced my fears and started recording Instagram stories to invite votes and genuinely made every effort to share instructions about how to vote via my facebook page.
AND IT WORKED! I’m so proud to be able to now share the news that I am award winning florist – but I’m really happy that it was from a public vote. So many friends, family, clients and colleagues so kindly took the time to vote really me means the world to me. Sometimes, running my own business can feel like it’s not the easiest of career choices! But my passion for what I do is now all the more validated and outways the reality of working unsociable hours, often outside in the cold, and the need to liberally apply hand cream to my poor old rough hands more often than most!
After applying much of said hand-cream, I joined a lovely bunch of suppliers also in the running for awards. We were sitting at mixed tables, decorated with beautiful centrepieces by The Wedding Tree so I had to wave at my industry besties Miriam King and Katie KN Photography. But the good thing about mixing up the tables was that I got to know some fabulous characters, notably Allan Granville, who won Wedding Entertainer of the Year and (who incidentally is friends with one of our children’s favourite teachers), Captured by Chrissi winner of Photographer of the Year. Plus the ‘super duper’ talented cake makers like Kelly’s Caked Away, and an incredible singer Stacey Mogg. Just don’t mention baby shark to any of them!
With lots of love and flowers
