A May Hedgerow inspired Wedding

I haven’t written a blog for a few months, owing to being in full floral production mode. The best way to start this catch up is nearly at the beginning of Wedding season…

The first time Elizabeth and I talked, I knew that I would love creating their Wedding Flowers. Elizabeth asked me if I had ever read the Bramley Hedge books by Jill Barklem. The truth is, as a girl these little books about tiny mice living in hedgerows, preserving sugared violets in brown paper bags appealed to my imagination like no others, let’s say, apart from the Flower Fairies.

To be able to deliver Wedding Flowers inspired by one of my favourite childhood books was a dream. We chose a palette fitting of the Summer Story, with pale pinks, zingy Spring hazel greens, deep raspberry tones, plus fluffy whites to replicate the cow parsley in the hedgerows we so often see at the beginning of May.

The Wedding ceremony too place in Hatherden Church, we built a zappy green mini arch above the Church door, and lined the doors with branches of Hazel. Inside the Church we placed two large urns on stands, which were filled with blossom branches, Margaret Merrill roses and Peonies. A few bud vases on the windowsills introduced the idea of the table settings at the Old Dairy Hatherden, where the celebrations and Wedding breakfast took place.

Now I have worked at this beautiful venue before, Pierdot and her family run the venue and we loved commuting over to Andover for a few days to work in such a well-thought out and beautiful space. On the first day, we lined the barn with Hazel trees, and then placed 100’s of bud vases filled with flowers along the banquet tables.

It was great to work with Wild Events, who are based in Stockbridge. The Wild team arranged the table linen so beautifully complementing the florals with pops of pale lilac, deep green and raspberry pink with linen napkins, and coloured glass goblets. We moved the giant flower urns from the Church back to the Old Dairy as the jazz band started to play weaving int between the guests who were enjoying cool drinks outside, with plenty of garden games on the lawn.

While we worked, we saw Abi Chadwick, photographer and the Wild Events team working their magic, ensuring the day ran smoothly and Abi’s photographs are incredible, you can see a few here in the blog.

Elizabeth wrote me an email the next day and said:

“Thank you SO much for the beautiful flowers. We got so many compliments about the floristry and for me it was the highlight of the day.  They were just stunning and beyond anything I had expected. You really are so talented.”

If I’m honest I had a little tear in my eye when I read this, partly because I was so tired after delivering a big job but mostly because it is always good to know that your efforts have been appreciated so much. I’m so grateful for wonderful clients like these and can’t wait to work with the Wild Events Wedding team again in the future.
