A Note About Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day for a florist like me is a bit of a conundrum. As a fierce advocate of buying yourself flowers just because I find the very idea of waiting for someone else to buy them a little strange. You can buy your own flowers, as the famous song goes but isn’t it also nice to receive a surprise?
As I wrestle with this thought, and the componant parts of running a profitable business I set an intention (as with all floristry jobs) to keep the recipient in mind. I know that the few special people who gift flowers made by me for Valentine’s Day are part of my very special inner circle of friends, clients, and brides. The idea that these hugely valued and loved humans in my life are to be gifted a bountiful, thoughtful bouquet fills me with immense joy.
For a studio florist, who doesn’t always carry a stock of flowers (unless there’s a wedding in the diary), Valentine’s Day is a creative opportunity, after a particularly rainy winter to fill the workshop with blooms. Red Roses are beautiful but not seasonal, so I often include bulb flowers like Ranunculus, Tulips, and Narcissi (or fancy daffs!) in my bouquets. Blossom adds a puff of scent, and if using Roses, the spray varieties give flair and detail.

This brings me to packaging, no cellophane or plastic bows. Beautiful ribbon and raffia only. There’s something understated about brown paper: a bit like a well-fitting pair of jeans, flowers wrapped in brown paper sing for themselves. I’ve recently invested in eco gel and biodegradable bags, allowing me to package bouquets sustainably.
This is all gearing me up to post bouquets later in the year. The heart balloons, and card displays will be gone soon. For me, there’s always a new project on the go. This month, my focus is on Spring flower kits, designing flowers for a styled shoot at the end of the month, and checking in with my 2026 wedding clients.
It’s going to be quite the year of flowers, if you'd like to chat flowers about an event or Wedding your planning drop me a message via the contacts page. I’d love to hear from you!
Lots of love
